Estimating glomerular filtration rate using the chronic kidney disease-epidemiology collaboration creatinine equation: better risk predictions.

چکیده
Serum creatinine is measured more than 280 million times annually in the United States, and more than 80% of clinical laboratories now report an estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) when serum creatinine is measured.1,2 The most commonly used equation is the Modification of Diet and Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation. Recently, the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) developed and validated a new equation, the CKD-EPI creatinine equation, which uses the same variables as the MDRD Study but is more accurate compared with measured GFR2,3; however, as for other diagnostic tests, other criteria are also important in clinical practice and public health, including detecting disease and predicting prognosis.

Cystatin C: A Promising Marker of Renal Function in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus?
PURPOSE Cystatin C has a higher correlation with glomerular filtration rate and a more significant clinical prognosis than creatinine. We sought to determine whether it is a marker of renal function different from creatinine (cystatin C potentially superior to creatinine), in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. MATERIAL AND METHODS 37 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus were ev...
متن کاملPerformance of the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration equation to estimate glomerular filtration rate in a longitudinal study of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) can only be measured indirectly1. The gold standard is the renal clearance of inulin. Because it is cumbersome, alternative methods such as the renal clearance of iothalamate and plasma clearance of iohexol were developed. Other methods estimate GFR using equations based on endogenous filtration markers such as creatinine and cystatin C2. The Chronic Kidney Dise...
متن کاملCystatin C-based glomerular filtration rate estimating equations in early chronic kidney disease.
OBJECTIVE To compare performance of combined creatinine and cystatin C-based equation with equations based on either cystatin C or creatinine alone, in early chronic kidney disease. DESIGN Diagnostic accuracy study. SETTING Tertiary-care hospital. PATIENTS One hundred children with chronic kidney disease who underwent 99mTc diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) glomerular filtration ...
متن کاملPerformance of the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration Equation to Estimate Glomerular Filtration Rate in Diabetic Patients
OBJECTIVE The best method to estimate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in diabetic patients is still largely debated. We compared the performance of creatinine-based formulas in a European diabetic population. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We compared the performance of Cockcroft and Gault, simplified Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD), and Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology (CKD-EPI...
متن کاملCreatinine-Based Estimations of Kidney Function Are Unreliable in Obese Kidney Donors
Accurate assessment of kidney function by measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is essential to the risk assessment of prospective living kidney donors. We evaluated the performance of various estimating equations for creatinine clearance (Cockcroft-Gault), GFR (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration), and 24-hour urine collections for...
